LovelandHigh School Baseball – Parents & Players Meeting Highlights
October 11, 2006
Coach Bakersky opened the meeting and welcomed everyone. He was glad to see everyone but a bit disappointed that more parents and players were not in attendance with approximately 20 potential players absent.Registration sheets were made available for those players who have not yet signed up via the website.
In addition, he reported that a LHS Baseball Board and Booster Team has been organized and has been meeting since August.Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend. The meetings are the first Tuesday of each month at the Coldwell Banker office located on the southeast corner of 29th Street and Garfield.Communications have and will continue to be sent out via email regarding various baseball-related events.Minutes of each meeting are posted on the website as well.
Team Doctors:
Coach Ski introduced three doctors who he is acquainted with and have expressed a desire to assist LHS baseball as team doctors. They are:Dr. Brad Sisson, Dr, Michael Yager, and Dr. Eric Walker of The Colorado Pain Clinic.Office Manager, Carla, was also present.
Although their roles have yet to be clearly defined, one goal is for these doctors to spend some time with the team in order to educate the players and coaches on how to fix any problems encountered.
Coach Ski encouraged parents and players to utilize the services of these physicians regarding any injuries that may be encountered. He would rather they seek medical attention than not. These physicians specialize in orthopedic, massage, chiropractic, rehabilitation, and numerous other sports-related treatments.Dr. Walker is an athlete himself and has been trained in many of the techniques used by team doctors for professional teams.A price sheet as well as brochures were made available.Cash discounts are available and all insurance is accepted. For additional information, please contact Carla at 970-278-0807 or Carla@coloradopainclinic.com.
Fundraisers:
Sue Lussenhop promoted the upcoming 3rd Annual Loveland High athletic dinner auction fundraiser. This event is scheduled for Thursday, November 9, 2006, at the Loveland High cafeteria. This event includes a catered dinner served from 5:00 to 6:45 p.m.A silent auction will be held during dinner followed by a live auction beginning at 7:00 p.m.Ten individuals are needed representing the baseball team to serve dinner during the auction.Coach Ski had a sign-up list for these ten volunteers.
Each prospective baseball player was asked to sell dinner tickets on behalf of the baseball program. The cost is $10 each.Tickets to be sold were distributed by Sue along with an information sheet. The proceeds for all tickets sold by the baseball team, will go directly to the baseball program budget.
In addition, everyone was encouraged to either make a donation, buy, or secure some type of item that can be auctioned off.The proceeds from the auction will go to the sport that you designate. There is potential with this fundraiser to bring in substantial funds for the baseball budget.Everyone is encouraged to do their best. Sue also distributed a Donation Information Sheet that needs to be filled out for each donation. All monies and forms need to be turned in to Sue Lussenhop no later than November 6th.Sue may be reached at:663-0568 or Lussenhop5@msn.com.
Thanks went out from Coach Ski to the volunteers who have worked hard in organizing the upcoming LHS baseball golf tournament fundraiser. The golf tournament will be held Saturday, October 16, 2006, at PelicanLakes in Windsor.A few players have volunteered to assist the day of the tournament with carrying bags, etc.Everyone is welcome and encouraged to be there and lend a hand.
Coach Ski added that money is needed to run a successful baseball program and encouraged other families to get involved in future fundraising events. The money allocated to the baseball department from the ThompsonSchool District primarily goes to pay for busses and baseballs. We are responsible to raise the rest. One goal for this year is to have three coaches per team.
Website & Sports Gear Orders:
Coach Ski reported that Tom Wil-Cip has developed a website for Loveland High baseball. It is a top-rate website—one of the best he has seen.
The website address is:lovelandhighschoolbaseball.com. Please utilize this website! There is a place provided for all players to register. To date only a fraction of players have registered (sheets were provided also at this meeting for this purpose).Practice times and other relative information will be listed on the website as well as the ability to order baseball gear on-line at the site. This includes bullpen jackets, coats, socks, hats, and decals. He encouraged everyone to get their orders in early. All gear must be paid for in advance.
